Illustrated Micro Memoirs: Drawing from Life Experiences

Description

In this supportive workshop setting, we’ll use prompts and life experiences to generate a variety of life writings. Then, we’ll experiment with various ways to illustrate them. Writers and artists of all levels are invited to capture feelings, observations, and stories from your own or from others’ lives. From six-word memoirs, to one-paragraph observations, to lines of poetry, to 450-word narratives, we’ll build up confidence and skills to compose using words and pictures. (Not into writing true-life stories? Fiction fans are welcome, too!). Inspired by examples of illustrated memoirs, art journals, comics, and graphic novels, we’ll work towards finding our own visual style to illustrate our words. Work with any medium — graphite, colored pencils, pastels, paints, collage, even photographs. Whether you want to simply expand your creative reach, or give stories to loved ones or perhaps pursue publishing possibilities, this course will support your individual goals.
